Personally, I think that anyone who gets offended by his videos is being way too sensitive. Because truthfully, if you've got even a dull sense of humor about you, you can accept the criticism and know that the video was funny and entertaining.
And unless you were on the game's design team or something, what's there to get offended about anyways? He doesn't bash them that hard. imo
BUT, I digress. The reason I'm writing this is because I wanted to point out three things I don't like about Yahtzee's videos.
Because that makes all the sense in the world after just now praising said videos.
1. His pattern of speech is an ear worm.
I'm not talking about the accent. I'm referring to the fact that he talks at a thousand miles per hour. Yes, this is one of the charm points of his reviews (and in all fairness, it is called "Zero Punctuation"), but it's also bizarrely catchy after you've listened to him for ten minutes straight. Right now, my inner voice sounds like it's hopped up on speed...and is also speaking in an accented man's voice.
Which is why I'm having a hard time right now to type as I normally do without saying things like "bugger" & "bollocks" and pronouncing "Mario" like "Mehrio" in my own head.
Also, I like to think that I'm fairly intelligent, but evidently not intelligent enough to process thoughts faster than a kid hopped up on pop rocks and soda. Because right now, I'm having to listen to the Mario Kart Love Song in order to get my thoughts slowed back down to a pace where I can write without sounding like I need a dose of Ritalin.
2. The accent.
I'm not going to lie: I love accents. But this is the part where I complain about how hard I have to focus on Yahtzee's speech to actually get what he's saying. ...Well, normally that would be what this part would be used for, but I can't seem to boil it down to anything better than that I've grown up in
But then again, when it came to Bioshock, I had an easier time understanding Tennenbaum than Atlas. BUT WAIT, we're getting into the touchy realm that is the difference between British, Irish, Scottish, and Australian accents, SO NEVER MIND.
That bit about the US--I mean ignorant...no, I mean USA, leads me to my last point...
3. It increases whatever levels of cynicism you may or may not already have.
And I think it's fair for me to say that I'm already pretty cynical as it is. But when I'm actually in the mood for putting up with my half-working speakers to watch some videos, it's usually because I'm feeling pretty good. Listening to Yahtzee doesn't destroy that mood, per say, because the humor keeps it around. But frankly, it reminds me of why I hold a lot of the new releases in contempt, and ultimately, why I hold a lot of people in contempt.
The only reason I'm even thinking about this is because I was trying to find someone in my "friends" list (one-third of which is people who are my actual friends, one-third is people I watched out of obligation/to make them shut up, and the last third is people I've forgotten about so completely that I'm not even sure who they are anymore or why they were on the list in the first place) and could not figure out for the life of me which one they were. This is a person I actually do like quite a lot, by the way, which just goes to show how poor my memory for names is. By the time I found them, it took a while to remember why I'd been searching in the first place, which turned out to be a stupid reason that didn't really merit that much effort.
Hooray for Sunday nights where you try to scrap together a meaningful end to another uneventful weekend.
BUT WAIT, I WENT TO THE RENAISSANCE FESTIVAL THIS WEEKEND, AND DIDN'T MENTION IT AT ALL. NOW WATCH AS PEOPLE COMMENT SOLELY ON HOW MUCH THEY LIKE RENFEST, WHILE IGNORING THE MEAT OF THIS JOURNAL.
On one last note, now that anyone can get a fancy journal, I feel like I really don't want one. What's the point of having a subscription if you can't wave it around in the air like an annoying prick? **SHOTDOWN**
On one last last last note, I find the "mood" section of these Journals largely unwanted because most of the moods are too extreme for me. :
